Scott Stroman, assisted by Alan Boxer will lead dynamic workshops exploring African Songs, Roots, Gospel and Jazz, and there will be a chance to perform with your group in the end of day performance slot and to busk acapella during the lunch hour.

Come and join us in May 2019 for ChoirWorx, the brand new Westcountry Festival of Community Choirs, at the stunning new performance space ‘The Venue’ in Uffculme for workshops, choir performances and musical fun!

Venue

The very first ChoirWorx Westcountry Festival of Community Choirs will be held at a stunning new performance space called ‘The Venue’. It is situated at the Uffculme School on Chapel Hill in Uffculme, Devon.

Choirworx is a brand new SINGING WORKSHOP FESTIVAL in a fabulous location in Devon!

Voiceworx have set up the Choirworx Singing Workshops to create the Westcountry Festival of Community Choirs on Bank Holiday Sunday 5th May 2019, at The Venue, Uffculme, Devon.

Building on running 10 years of Summer Music Festivals, this event is for singers from everywhere to come along and learn something uniquely different led by London based Scott Stroman. This will be a unique and entertaining experience. Crossing boundaries between styles and cultures, and, performance, composition, improvisation, education, and entertainment!

Scott Stroman

Scott often combines his roles as conductor, performer, presenter and educator to create unique programmes. 

He has directed and presented many combined performance and education series and programs on the music of many traditions and composers. From Bach, Haydn, Dvorak, Stravinsky, Bartok, John Adams, Lutoslawski, Duke Ellington, Gil Evans, to all sorts of gospel African and Brazilian music. 

Scott has been a Professor in the Jazz Department at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama since 1983. Made a Fellow of the Guildhall School in 1988 he has won the BBC Big Band Contest six times and made four albums as director of the Guildhall Jazz Band.

Scott teaches jazz composition, arranging and performance. He has led hundreds of courses and workshops in improvisation, performance, singing, world music, and conducting throughout Europe. These have been for choirs, education authorities, schools, colleges, universities, Arts Councils and orchestras.

Music Director for the Globe Music Exchange and Director of the African and Gospel Music Workshop at the Dartington International Summer School, he is also artistic adviser to the Escuela de Musica Municipal in La Coruña, Spain. For the LPO he has directed numerous workshops, family and schools’ concerts and the “Orchestra in a Weekend” programme mixing LPO and amateur performers. His work has been featured on radio and television.

Alan Boxer

Alan has directed choral and orchestral groups since he was in his teens. After training at the Royal College of Music he has followed a joint career in music and as a headteacher. He now directs several choirs, performs as a pianist, bassoonist, singer and conductor, and writes songs and musicals. He works with professional groups, community choirs and with children’s groups, as well as teaching privately at home in Mid Devon.
